Journey Editor — Email Action Card
What is this for?
The Email Action Card is the visual representation of a single "Send Email" action on the Journey Editor canvas. It gives you an at-a-glance summary of the action's timing, recipient, and subject — so you can understand the journey flow without opening every popup. Each card also provides a menu to edit or remove that specific action.
Visual Breakdown of the Card
The card appears as a rounded white box (200 × 70 px) with these elements:
| Area | What You See | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| Top-left icon | Envelope icon (gray) | Identifies this as an Email Action (the only job type currently). |
| Top-right time | e.g., 1h, 2-days, 5-days |
The time offset from the trigger point. Shown for all triggers except "Time Subscribe to Event". |
| Top-right clock icon | Clock icon (orange) | Appears only for Time Subscribe to Event triggers. Hover to see tooltip: "Time when subscribed to form". |
| Bottom-left recipient icon | Person / Owner / Custom user icon (orange) | Shows who receives this email: • Person icon → Subscriber (the registrant) • Owner icon → Event Owner (organizer) • Custom user icon → Custom email address Hover to see tooltip with recipient type and the email address (for custom). |
| Center subject line | Truncated subject text (e.g., Welcome to our ev...) |
The email subject. If longer than 11 characters, it's truncated with .... Hover to see the full subject in a tooltip. |
| Top-right dropdown (⋮) | Three-dots menu icon | Opens the action menu with Edit and Remove options. |
Trigger Types & How They Affect the Card
| Trigger Type | Time Display | Position on Canvas |
|---|---|---|
| Time Before Event | Offset shown (e.g., 30m, 1h, 24h) |
Left of Event marker, sorted by offset descending (longest first) |
| Time After Event | Offset shown (e.g., 1h, 48h, 120h) |
Right of Event marker, sorted by offset ascending (shortest first) |
| Time Subscribe to Event | Clock icon (no text offset) | Far left (before all time-before actions) |
Card Menu Actions
Click the three-dots menu (⋮) at the top-right of any card to access:
| Option | What It Does |
|---|---|
| Edit | Opens the Email Action popup pre-filled with this action's settings. Make changes and click Save to update the card. |
| Remove | Opens a confirmation dialog. Confirming deletes the action from the journey permanently. |
Important Rules & Tips
Note: The card is read-only on the canvas — you cannot change timing, recipient, or subject directly on the card. All edits happen through the Edit popup.
Lock State: If the journey is used in an active event, the entire canvas is locked. Cards show no menu (⋮) and display a lock icon overlay on the canvas with the message "lock edit, used in active events!" — you cannot edit or remove any action.
Subject Truncation: The subject line shows only the first 11 characters on the card. Hover the subject to see the full text in a tooltip.
Recipient Tooltip: Hover the recipient icon to see the recipient type (Subscriber / Owner / Custom user) and, for custom emails, the actual email address.
Time-Subscribe Icon: The orange clock icon replaces the time offset text for subscription triggers. It distinguishes "at registration" from "X time before/after event" at a glance.
Common Questions & Troubleshooting
Why doesn't my card show a time like "1h" or "2-days"? It's a Time Subscribe to Event trigger — these fire at the moment of registration, so there's no offset. The orange clock icon indicates this.
I see a custom email icon but no email address on the card. Hover the custom user icon — the tooltip shows the custom email address. The card itself only shows the icon for space reasons.
The subject is cut off and I can't read it all. Hover the subject line — a tooltip appears with the full subject text.
I clicked the menu (⋮) but nothing happens / Edit and Remove are missing. The journey is likely locked because it's used in an active event. Check for the lock icon and message on the canvas.
Can I change the order of cards by dragging them? No. Cards auto-sort based on trigger type and offset. To change position, edit the action's trigger type or offset value in the Edit popup.
What does the envelope icon color mean? It's always gray (#6B7280) — it simply identifies the job type (Email). Future job types would have their own icons/colors.
